As I mentioned last week you would have received this year’s AIP/calendar by now. Mainly for the new parents, but also as a refresher for others, I will work my way through the various parts of the annual implementation plan (AIP) over the coming weeks. You will have noticed there are 4 tables, the first being our YES Message. The “Y” in our YES Message stands for YES – You Can Do It. We want the children to be positive about their learning and although it might be challenging (as it should be), we want them to keep trying. The “E” stands for YES - Every Student Succeeding Everyday. There should not be a day when a child goes home without learning and mastering something new every school day. The teachers are ensuring this is the case with the children needing to answer an exit question before they leave class. The “S” stands for YES - Student Targets Aim for Real Success (STARS). The children have a number of goals them are aiming to achieve in their learning and these goals ensure they are focus on what is important for them. One of those targets are their reading goals in the Principal’s Reading Challenge where they need to either read for a set amount of minutes or number of home readers for the younger children. Besides ensuring they are focused on their learning, goal setting is an important life skill.

What can you do to help at home? Try to use the language of the YES Message at home. For example, if the children say they can’t do something, don’t let them get away with that. Tell them they can, they just might need your help to do so.
