As you will be more than aware of by now, we will transition to full Junior (Jnr) Secondary in 2015 with the movement of Yr7 into the high school. To further focus on Jnr Secondary which is Yrs 7, 8 & 9, we will also lose the Yr10s to the bigger high schools. This will be a big change for our children starting their high school years a year earlier. Some parents have been concerned about their children being too young for high school. May I firstly point out that children in most of the other states have already been doing this and I am sure our children can do anything children from the other states can do? Secondly, it is up to us adults to support the children in their transition into high school, no matter when that change is. An example of how we have helped the children be ready for high school are the secondary taster subjects throughout the year for both the Yr 6s & 7s.

What can you do to help at home?
Monitor how your Yr 6 & 7 children are going in the taster subjects. This may mean actually out and out asking them directly. You can also talk to their taster subject teachers, this term being David Cleland who is teaching the children Manual Arts. And most importantly continue to do the same next year. Don’t assume that because they are there that’s it, they will still need your support.
