Our new March 2017 to February 2018 calendar/Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) will go home next week. There are some minor changes that have been made. Reading, spelling and number under the first priority area of Literacy and Numeracy has been blended to straight Literacy and Numeracy to fall in line with the change from reading groups last year to literacy groups and the introduction of numeracy groups. You will also see that we are refining how we do our Stars goals with the children, but I will explain that further once that’s finalised with the teachers. We have also changed the wording of our reading and spelling programs to pedagogy. Pedagogy is about how we teach something, so this puts more of a focus on our teaching rather than a program. Under Behaviour we’ve changed the target of decreased number of children referred to the Principal, as we do want children referred to the Principal, but for good behaviour/work. So there are 2 new targets of decreased referrals for negative behaviour and increased referrals for positive behaviour. I will start working through each of the areas in more depth next week as a reminder for parents and explanation for our new parents.
What can you do to help at home? Take the time to look through the AIP and think about what it means for your children and how you can support them and the school in your children’s learning.
