As you could see from the NAPLAN reading data I shared at awards night, we are well and truly improving in our reading in nearly all respects. In most cases we have achieved our AIP reading targets of 86% of children above the NMS (national minimum standard) and 25% of the children in the U2Bs (upper 2 bands). As my current boss (Andrew Pierpoint) indicated last night Cecil Plains P-10 State School is not the top school in our region in regards to our NAPLAN results, but we are up there with the top schools, which was nice to know from my perspective as the Principal. We obviously have more work to do, but the hard work of the staff and parent volunteers is paying off. I would be hesitant to wonder if our results would be the same if we did not have the dedicated volunteers we have. Once again I say thank-you to all the staff and volunteers who have made our achievements possible.
What can you do to help at home? As I’ve said before, if you can volunteers a little of your time to help at school, it will be well worth it to the children. One group I meant to thank last night was those parents who read to or listen to their children’s’ reading at home. That also has had an influence on our reading results, so please keep it up.
