As you are aware, reading has for the last couple of years been our top priority in the school. As I’ve said before, the other areas are important, but the children need to be able to read and comprehend what they are reading to be able to learn in the other areas.
Last Thursday I went to my last MAP (Maximizing Achievement Program) session for the year. The main focus of this training has been to improve reading outcomes for our students. On the day all the principals there were given their NAPLAN reading data to see how we are travelling on our journey to improve our children’s reading and I must say I was very impressed with our improvement, which I will be sharing the data later in the year. All the principals who have been participating in the program were given the option to opt out of the program in 2013, but given the improvement in our reading I have chosen to stay with the program, so that we can keep the momentum going and applying it to other learning areas.
