The subject consists of both food studies and textiles units. Both cooking and sewing activities will occur on an alternating basis throughout the year with food technology in Term 1 and textiles in Term 2. There is a large practical skills component to each unit including food preparation, operating equipment according to workplace health and safety requirements and practical textiles tasks.
Term 1 - Students will study nutrition, safe practices in the kitchen and be able to produce snacks suitable for growing teenagers.
Term 2 - Throughout the term students will learn how to operate the sewing machine safely. They will also explore different uses for certain materials and create a bag of their style choice.
