Manual Arts promotes the development of hand skills and safe work practices in the workshop. The skills acquired will be a valuable asset in the home and transfer to hobbies and other activities as well as providing a knowledgebase for transitions into workplace environments. Students will develop their skills to interpret diagrams and instructions enabling them to make a variety of small projects. Students are expected to make design decisions on each of their projects. A key focus is the development of accuracy and pride in measuring, cutting and finishing projects.

Term 1

Students will begin with practicing/revising wood joints before beginning a project in wood work.

Term 2

Students will revise wooden joints, complete their term one project.

Term 3

In addition to revision of wooden joints and completing projects and begin new projects. Students will be learning a little about engineering as they design and build a bridge for the Aurecon Bridge building Competition.

Term 4

Revise wooden joints. Complete projects.
