The Maths faculty is aligned to Dalby State High School, and as such we are preparing our children to enter mainstream high school Maths classes as competent , autonomous workers whose grades equate to state wide standards.
We study the strands of Number and algebra, measurement, geometry, trigonometry , statistics and probability.
The class courses are differentiated to provide optimum learning paths and educational outcomes for all the children, and the assessment items continue this differentiation
The Maths faculty engages the children in developing their knowledge of the content, procedural techniques, modelling and problem solving, communication and mathematical justification of their work.
All families receive a term planner every term that describes the learning being done in each period, every day, for every grade and includes the date and types of assessment that will be conducted.
The children are graded on a 5 point scale as per QEd Department policy, in each of the strands and a total grade.
In term three 2017 we are studying and learning how to operate with:
Year 7: The representation of data in different forms of graphs and their interpretation.
This will be followed by financial maths.
Year 8: Chance, probability and geometrical transformations
Year 9: Data collection and analyses including measures of central tendency
Each year level will be assessed through a combination or one of assignments or exams.
Mr Lewis encourages caregiver support and is happy to assist parents in their own mathematical growth to help their children succeed.
